With a relieved sigh, Kureha hung up her flour-laden apron and washed up at the sink, making sure to scrub all the remaining baking products off her hands with soap. She wasn't tired; no, making pastries hardly ever tired her out, especially since she almost always had the afternoon shift, and that time of the day was dedicated to what she does best -- sweet, creations that were beautifully designed to attract ladies and the occasional gentleman to purchase and taste them. There was such a difference between that and the morning products, which were more for breakfast and consisted of more staple bread than anything else. People were somehow almost always in a hurry to buy those, before leaving for school or work.
Her father wasn't due to come home until next week. Just as well, she was to patrol around. The redhead stared back at the reflection in the mirror, then, thinking it best to wash her face too, bent down to splash the cold water onto her face. Come to think of it, she wasn't even sure if she knew everyone in SEES. They were a small group, sure, but didn't they seem more like a bunch of meddling kids? Even so, Kureha was fine with it. Dangerous or not, it was her choice to fling herself into the fray she was sure she only knew the tip of the iceberg of...
Moments later, Kureha was out in the bright streets of Ikebukuro, school bag slung over her shoulder. Her school uniform was out of sight under the dark gray coat she wore, but it wasn't as if she would be terribly out of place here -- even cram school had been out for quite a while now, and there were uniformed students here and there. Businessmen too, of course -- the city hardly ever seemed to sleep, until one gets to the residential areas. A quick glance at her watch told her that it was a good five minutes before midnight.
Five minutes until that extra hour of the day... Kureha had begun to include it in her timeline that it was substantially less supernatural to her than the first few times she experienced it. At first the eerieness of it disquieted her enough not to do anything other than stay vigilant during the entire hour, but eventually she bagan to adjust, sometimes spending it studying under the light of that huge moon, or completing other tasks so long as it did not involve electronics.
Was someone from SEES supposed to join her tonight? Kureha lightly leaned against one of the tall sidewalk plant boxes, slipping one hand in her bag and wrapping her fingers around the long metal cylinder that she had taken to carrying around with her everywhere. Just a few more minutes, and the multitude of people walking around would be stilled and become coffins... It was a transition she could never get comfortable with.

Ringo continued to write down numerous notes. He sighed as he continued to try to make connection...then again he was trying to connect the dots so to speak for about two years. At the rate he is going, back at his apartment, he is going to have to get another room to make notes in. Ringo stood up as he walked around the Police Office. It was rather troublesome considering that Ringo is considered just in training. He doesn't have access to that many police documents. Even documents he has access to about a good seventy percent of them is already information released to the general Japanese public.
"Thank you for today everyone." Ringo bowed polite, took his bag and left. He put on his dark blue coat and walked down the streets. It was a bit chilly so he buttoned up, making his jeans and shoes the only visible clothing aside from the coat. Ringo took out his cellphone. There doesn't seem to be a meeting tonight. Come to think of it, Ringo remembered he had to meet a few members. Due to how big the city is, Ringo designated a few meeting spots depending on where they are. He listed them off in his head.
Bunkyo, Hongo, Tokyo University's main campus. Shinjuku, Ichigaya, a few blocks down from the Ministry of Defense headquarters.... Ringo continued to list off the locations as he went on the train. He looked at the time and then at the station. The Dark Hour caused all electronic to be shut down. If Ringo doesn't want to get trapped in the trains tonight, he was going to have to exit at Ikebukuro.
Ringo walked along down the street and looked around. It was already the dark hour. It was tough during the transition...Ikebukuro had a busy train station so the moment it began, it was troublesome to navigate through the coffins. As he navigated through Ikebukuro he recognized someone.
"Ayatane-san." Ringo waved hello. He walked up. It seemed like she was the only one here. "Ok...there is one...so I won't solo tonight." Ringo simply gave Kureha his usual smile. It calmed the group down more than anything else. "Our meeting place in this area is at the Jizo-Dori in Sugamo...so let's try to see if the others are there. Hopefully no one forgot..." Ringo wished he had some means of far communication in the Dark Hours...however the best he can do right now is plan 'hubs' around Tokyo and just hope for the best. [/style] |

Movement was easily detected in the unnatural stillness of the Dark Hour, and so were people who have not been turned into coffins. Kureha had seen Ringo as he left the station, and waved back in greeting as the other stepped closer. "Good thing that the trains are usually on schedule, eh?" She smiled back, standing up straight and pushing her rather lengthy hair over her shoulder with her free hand. "It's so inconvenient to force the door open and walk along the rails to the station." She'd had to do that twice before, and had not appreciated it.
"We'd better start walking then, Shiro-san." Kureha nodded and began to walk towards the mentioned meeting place for tonight, expecting Ringo to walk alongside her. "We'll need to be more organized if the group begins to get bigger..." She thought out loud. It was fine with her though, that their current meeting places were within reasonable distance from her house. Come to think of it, how formal was their group? Were they just going around preventing major damage caused by the Shadows and demons, eliminating Shadows and helping other people who find themselves needing help in the Dark Hour, or was anyone looking into why this was happening? With the number of members and the number of encounters with the Shadows, they were probably too busy to do the former, at least for the moment...
It did no good to let her thoughts wander in the middle of the Dark Hour. Kureha pulled her hand out of her bag, carrying the retracted baton in her palm. The weight of it comforted her and Dark Hour or not, she'd probably bring it with her everywhere she went. "Do you want cookies?" She asked softly, pulling out a small plastic jar of assorted mini-cookies from her bag and offering it to him. They were leftovers from the cafe, part of the small basket of treats that were to be sold at half their regular price an hour before closing. Since Kureha made them anyway, she didn't have to pay for them.

"You're very welcome. Just let me know if you want more." How was her day? Kureha gave the leader of SEES a short glance as she took the little jar back. Was Mr. Leader trying to make small talk? Not to say anything was wrong with it; they would be walking for some time until they reached the meeting place, and since he was the leader, he would do well to be friendly to the members of the team. Not to mention that Kureha wasn't in the place to find fault in others, and would rather encourage such behavior in a leader than point out how... generic the question was.
"It was nothing special," she replied lightly, eyes scanning their surroundings for any hint of movement, anything that wasn't supposed to be up and around in the Dark Hour like they were. "You know how high school is... Classes, projects, organizing festival programs, and the constant reminder that us third years are running out of time to decide what we want to do for the rest of our lives." The last part was said with a shrug and a wry smile. They had the first of many mandatory counseling sessions with their homeroom teachers earlier, and although Kureha's experience wasn't exactly unpleasant, it hadn't been fun, either. Though she supposed that she should be grateful that her father wasn't smothering her with cram school, or extra lessons to map out her life for her.
But such was the life meant for a high schooler. "What about your day? College classes' schedules aren't as rigid as high school's, right?" By all accounts, Kureha is most likely go to college. It was what she told her teacher, when being pressed for her plans. ... Was that... ? Kureha suddenly stopped walking, head turned to the left and facing the glass wall of a convenient store, frowning face reflected on the surface. She couldn't be sure if something in there moved, but she could swear by her long red hair that it wasn't just their reflections.

"You're very welcome. Just let me know if you want more." Kureha said. She was always polite. She's pleasant to be around to say the least. It was easy talking with her, much like talking with the founder. Ringo did gather...a unique group so to speak.
"It was nothing special," Kureha responded to Ringo's question."You know how high school is... Classes, projects, organizing festival programs, and the constant reminder that us third years are running out of time to decide what we want to do for the rest of our lives." Ringo could relate with Kureha's wry smile. Not too long ago, he had to go through the third year process of preparing for college entrance exams and counseling sessions as well as questions asked. "What about your day? College classes' schedules aren't as rigid as high school's, right?"
"It is alright. It is true, College class schedules are less rigid as highschool but you gotta plan when your classes are carefully and do so early. They fill up surprisingly fast. Not to mention you need to better manage your time." Ringo advised. Kureha and Ringo walked down the street. Both of them stopped walking. Ringo heard something...it seems Kureha shared the sentiments as the two looked around.
"I'm sure something is out here. Just a gut feeling." Ringo slowly started to draw out his knife blade and began to look around. If anything should happen, his auto-sukukaja should trigger...though past instances has proven that the boost in awareness and speed isn't always enough. [/style] |

Slowly, and as quietly as the baton would let her, Kureha extended the rod to its full length, slowly pushing her bag off to her side so that it wouldn't bump on her knees if ever they run -- to or away from the convenience store, whichever it would be. She nodded in acknowledgement to Ringo's confirmation that they shared the same instinctive feeling, not daring to take her eyes off the moving thing in the store -- they were too far away and the glass distorted their view enough not to be able to identify if it was a shadow, or a stray demon, or anything or anyone else that walked the streets of the Dark Hour.
Should they enter and find out what it was? It could be a person; some poor human who suddenly found themselves aware of this extra hour of the night, not unlike Kureha was a few years ago. But... the movement was somewhat slow... and slithery... that as the seconds of observation passed it seemed less and less likely to be human. There was no way to confirm it while they were out here and it was in there though, but then again, if it turned out to be a shadow or a demon both of them would have a hard time fending it off in such a limited space.
And Kureha really didn't want to spend the better part of the Dark Hour putting the convenience store's items back into order.
"I don't think there's a person in there..." She shared her thoughts with the leader. "If you want then I can go in a confirm, and draw it out, too, but as long as it's not destroying anything..." Although she had embraced joining SEES, Kureha was not as idealistic as to think that their ragtag group could save everyone, or eliminate every shadow that came their way. She has yet to run from an enemy, sure; that didn't mean that the possibility of that happening was zero. There were times that they would have to leave some things alone, and to her, this was one of them.
It was up to Ringo, though. As one who had placed herself under his supervision and command, in a manner of speaking... If he said to go check, then she would go, and hope that his judgment of the situation was good. People were waiting for their arrival at Sugamo, after all. "Shall I?"

"I don't think there's a person in there..." That much Ringo agreed on. "If you want then I can go in a confirm, and draw it out, too, but as long as it's not destroying anything..." Ringo then walked up and placed an ear closer to the window just to see if he could hear another bit of movement. "Shall I?"
"No, I will go inside." Ringo said. He drew out the blade of the switch blade. "With ability taken into account, I'm better at close encounters and closed spaces." Ringo looked over at Kureha. "Stay here, I'll be right back. If I don't come out in ten minutes continue on to the meeting place." Ringo went on inside as he looked around, he kept the door closed as he entered so as to what was inside doesn't lunge out.
Ringo walked along inside the numerous shelves convenience store. He looked left and right and then looked at one of the bento boxes. He then realized he should buy himself lunch later. He then turned as he heard something drop on the ground. It was just a couple of cans. He sighed in relief and then started to walk over and noticed a Maya shadow clawing at the numerous frozen fish on display. The Maya took notice of him and then started to crawl towards him.
At this point a Maya was no threat to Ringo. He simply allows the collection of slime and claws lunge at him. It was not difficult feat that Ringo managed to stab it in the face and allow the Maya to dissolve, not a scratch on him. He looked around and noticed something slithering away. He also heard the clashing of metal against the ground. Ringo dashed to noticed a black snake type shadow with metal ornaments resembling gender symbols dashing toward the door. Ringo was about to chase after but then dodged a tail strike from another snake shadow closer to him. He readied his knife. It looked like Kureha is going to be on her own for this. [/style] |
