Kureha Ayatane
Name: Kureha Ayatane
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Occupation: Full time third year high school student, and part-time patissiere and cashier (the staff works in the kitchen in rotating shifts) at the local cafe.
Alliance: SEES
Group: Persona user
Weapons:
Kureha uses batons in combat. She usually carries a 24-inch collapsible steel nightstick on her person, but when discretion is not a concern, she carries a pair of 26-inch hardwood sticks. While she has had basic eskrima training and can competently wield both at the same time, she usually keeps one hand open unless focusing on offense.
Her father has also taken the time to teach his daughter on how to handle small to medium-sized firearms, and it would be false to say that she wasn't a good shot. Assembling or disassembling firearms is a bit too advanced for her though, and she doesn't own a gun nor does she have a license to carry.
Personality:
+ Generally pleasant. She won't go out of her way to befriend someone, but she exerts effort to get along with others. Kureha has the sense not to voice out things that might cause conflict within a group or between others -- unless there's some goal to be reached by doing so, but she's not the type to do anything for the hell of it.
+ Caring. Kureha doesn't like making a big fuss out of it, but for all her reserved behavior, she is quite capable of caring for people. Kureha will definitely go mama bear on people who harm those she considers her friends. She likes sneaking small gifts to the people she adores too, but while she won't deny doing so, she won't admit it either.
+ Level-headed. Calm and collected, Kureha's temperament isn't likely to be disturbed much, despite her own anxieties.
+ Intelligent. The little lady is extensively informed due to being a wide reader, and is quick to understand and catch on even snippets of information. Her smarts are not only based on what she had learned through formal education, but is also practical enough to have street smarts.
+ Reasonable. A steady head on her shoulders, and feet firmly planted to the ground. While Kureha knows what she's capable of, she understands that she cannot do everything and will have to give something up for another somaday. That said, she sees the world in shades of colors rather than black or white, and is likely to empathize with a member of another faction. It doesn't really translate to agreeing with them though.
- Not used to a hard life. Her father has always been able to provide enough for her needs and most of her wants, so although she's in no way sheltered, Kureha would prefer not to find anything lacking when it comes to necessities. Food is an acceptable thing to go without for a certain period of time, but the absence of a shower at least once a day, a proper bed to sleep in, and power outages would put her in a terrible mood.
- Squishy. Physical diversions have never interested her, so the majority of her efforts and time have been spent on studying and reading rather than jogging or exercise. Because of this, her endurance won't take her very far.
- Withdrawn. Not exactly shy, but given her maturity, she finds herself unable to fully relate to her peers. Granted, she doesn't try hard. She tries to keep her emotions in check, thinking that it would be inappropriate and unacceptable to herself if she were to act out. Because of that, she cannot help but think that there might be something wrong with her. The things that other young people her age find exciting and worth spending time over -- why don't those things interest her?
- Prideful. Kureha likes being respected and behaves so that she would be -- the mature way she handles herself is a product of her pride, if subconsciously cultivated. Aspects of this trait include her aversion to complaining, and her mannerisms that mark her as one mature for her age. She does not like making mistakes, much less admitting them.
- Driving issues. She strongly prefers sitting at the backseat of a car, when she has to ride one. That is to say, she won't freak out if the situation requires her to take the passenger seat, but will be inconsolably jittery. She will lose all composure if forced to drive.

History:
Kureha was born two months prematurely, to Kanade and Itsuki Ayatane, a military nurse and an airman with the Japan Air Self-Defense Forces. Both baby and mother were in critical conditions after the delivery, and one day after, Kanade succumbed to complications of childbirth and died. For a while, it seemed that Kureha would follow her mother into the grave, since her lungs had not fully matured. Itsuki was advised that he might lose his daughter too, and he could not do anything but accept the bitter pill and prepare a grave for her, beside her mother's. Fortunately, after weeks in the incubator, Kureha survived to be stable enough to be brought home.
Without a wife to take care of the baby, and in anticipation of being assigned to another location, Itsuki left Kureha in the care of his sister, Rina, who was widowed and childless. He supported Kureha financially as she grew up, and when he did come home he would try to make the best of it and try to get to know his daughter more; however, since Kureha ultimately spent more time with her aunt, they had little to talk about other than his job, and her learning, rinse and repeat. When Rina decided to remarry, Kureha did not object, but her new uncle and Kureha's relationship never progressed past lukewarm, until the man's death when Kureha was 12.
She'd been with her uncle, when it happened: a traffic collision had caused their car to fishtail wildly onto rough terrain and the momentum caused it to flip over multiple times. Kureha would later say that she could not remember what exactly happened, other than the keen sound of metal warping mixed with her own screams, but police reports say that she had been found outside the vehicle, thrown out by the force of impact. Since that incident, Kureha had never sat in either front seat, and, years after and despite her father's urging, adamantly declined driving lessons.
Junior high school saw her attend a boarding school excusively for ladies. Kureha lived there for the entire three years, spending her summers taking extracurricular subjects. Those three years molded Kureha into a prim and proper lady and minimized her need to socialize, since the school had a very extensive library which she fell in love with.
Itsuki was deciding on whether to have Kureha continue to high school at the boarding school or not. After all, she was doing quite well with her lessons, and not a smidge of disciplinary record on her files. She'd even taken classes on how to defend herself, a detail that pleased her father immensely, since, as a single father to a daughter, he felt that great need to protect her, if not to equip her to protect herself since he was away so often. His daughter seemed fairly happy at the boarding school. So when he told Kureha about his decision to have her stay at the school until she graduates from high school, he was rather surprised when she said that she would rather live with him. He was flattered that his daughter would eagerly choose him over a more stable lifestyle in school or with her aunt, and he felt guilty over his intermittent absences in her life, so without further ado Itsuki and Kureha moved to a house in Koshikawa.
That certainly didn't mean that Itsuki would settle down; now a warrant officent, he still left for undiclosed locations quite often, but as far as Kureha was concerned, it was better this way than if she had been away at a boarding school. She began to teach herself chores around the house -- except for the laundry, she cheats and sends the clothes off to the laundromat instead of doing it herself -- and attended a regular school. Though at first the presence of males in the classroom bothered her, midway through her first year she was able to speak to them casually.
Second year high school was a year of unexpected changes. One night, as she was walking home late from drama club practice, she noticed that there was... something very wrong in the environment. It was eerily quiet and there were... Coffins? Yes, it was her first time experiencing the Dark Hour. Naturally her instinct was to hurry on home to escape this... insanity that had seemed to crash down upon her, but it was not meant to be. A group of what she would later know as Shadows had managed to back her up into a corner, and just as they were about to advance on the terrified girl, when a stranger grabbed her hand, urgently telling her to "call it out". And Kureha, who was too confused and frightened, obeyed almost automatically, blurting out the first thing she had in mind -- a name that had attached itself at the back of her mind, nagging persistently.
A dazzling woman materialized before them and flung flames at the creatures. A path was opened, and they ran for it until they got to a safer place.
The stranger gave her a quick summary about those creatures and that which she had called forth. "You'll understand more as you go," she was advised as her saviour accompanied her on the way home. "But keep yourself alive, so you can do that. Joining a faction is a good way to do that; there are more people like us than you'd think." It was only more mysterious words for Kureha at the time, but when she asked for the other's name and faction, the question was evaded thus: "I'm with the big bad wolves, and you, Little Red Riding Hood, won't have good things to gain there if you follow me blindly. Maybe we'll see each other again. Bye, Kureha Ayatane." With a wink and a wave, the person walked a few minutes before everything returned to normal and the clocks started working again, leaving a stunned Kureha wondering how that person knew her name. She found out the next day.
The stranger had stolen her student ID.
She never saw her saviour again. Not even when she found and joined SEES. That night had become a distant memory -- she had more things to worry about, like the mentioned part about keeping herself alive. While Kureha is aware that she was, for the most part, risking her life and/or sanity, she would never accept standing by when there was something she could do. Perhaps her father and his job have more influence over her than she thinks.

"[Brigid] is most frequently attributed a solar divinity, daughter of the Dagda, goddess of fire and hearth and a patron of warfare. Her soldiers were called Brigands. A perpetual fire was tended in her honour and no man was allowed near. She is also associated with the Moon and water, and was worshipped at healing wells and springs. The 19 maidens who tended her sacred flame references the 19-year lunar cycle."
